WEATHERED
My WEATHERED series comes from my need to get back to line and form in relation to it's plane, simply put. The subject matter of the Old West (with a twist) provided the canvas. Mother Nature added another element of dimension and the colors became so alive and had stories to tell. Some images feel as if they were taken from space with parts resembling land masses flowing right into water. I like to have elements of knowing leading to a falling off of detail so the viewer may lose their sense of what the picture really is. Many images have a fractal feel to them, some which have been provided by the elements, some man made. It is beacuse of these lines that run through my images that I have chosen to print with a longer format. I believe it really helps pull the lines through the image rather than cutting them up.
From the suggestion of one, I decided to see if anyone might be interested in letting me hang my art therapy. The original WEATHERED collection was 24 images strong. Print sizes were 11x17 and 13x19, as large as I could print at home for wonderful depth and detail. It was a new challange to print on a larger scale from what I had done in the past. Yet another challenge to find the right frame to pull it all together. I decided to use handmade hot rolled steel frames sized 18x24, simple yet strong. It was a beautiful showing. This first installation hung at Franki Ro Gallery in February 2008. It's second showing went to TART gallery in September 2008. Since then, it has been hung in various venues and delighted the eyes of many. I have had great opportunity to discuss and evolve my series with many helpful suggestions. And one of those suggestions was to offer my images online for sale. So I said, "Why not?" With the success of these shows I have continued on with this obsession of mine and try my hardest to maintain it while raising my kids.
Opening my WEATHERED art collection to the online world allows the customer to see all the variety within the series. You can chose an image by endless colors or size to fit your desires. I am always available to discuss these options with you. There is something for everyone! These images are available in 11x17, 13x19, or custom canvas sizing up to 4ft by 6ft. The 13x19 images are only sold as limited edtion prints in lots of 25. Please keep in mind that with online images the color may vary slightly. I have made another round of steel frames and they are available as well. These finish around 18x24. Pricing varies due to size and framing. Needless to say, I had no idea when I shot my first image what a journey this was going to take me on. The series has undoubtedly evolved into a work I am really proud of. It is hard to believe this all started with a beautiful coal shoot on a passenger train parked in Virginia City (weathered #14). The journey has taken me to many beautiful places in the world and I see things through this new WEATHERED eye. I am obsessed! Moving forward to present, I have added over 300 images to the series, and my eye and focus still remains drawn to line and color. It really has been therapudic for me to continue my love of art, through my eyes for all to enjoy!
